Treasurer Kennedy's take on Sen. Bennet doesn't add up

At the Colorado Democrats “Unity Rally” outside the state Capitol on Thursday, state Treasurer Cary Kennedy hailed U.S. Sen Michael Bennet and told the crowd…

“Senator Bennet goes forward with the full support of the Democratic Party and with the full support of thousands of people all across Colorado of every political affiliation because he has earned it. He has shown us that he has a vision to build a world class education system, that he will end the partisanship in Washington, that he will work to solve our nation’s most pressing problem, including bringing down the national debt.”

In being a reliable vote for the spending bender of the Obama Administration, Bennet is exacerbating our national problems with the deficit and debt, not helping solve it.

“The U.S. government spent itself deeper into the red last month, paying nearly $20 billion in interest on debt and an additional $9.8 billion to help unemployed Americans,” The Wall Street Journal reported in a story noting that the deficit in July totaled $165 billion.

As for the national debt…

And where is Bennet on fiscal discipline?

“His discussion of entitlement spending was even more amorphous,” wrote Denver Post columnist Vincent Carroll about Bennet after an editorial board meeting. “He even seemed to reject the idea that we need politicians who are aggressive advocates for very specific spending limitations or reforms if we’re going to conquer the federal deficit.

“Before that happens, Bennet said, we need “‘institutional support around this place to be advocates on behalf of the next generation of Americans on this question.’”

“Pure pabulum,” Carroll wrote.
