Tancredo’s state’s rights dream team includes Govs. Christie and Brewer

Tom Tancredo said that as governor of Colorado, he would try to recruit other high-profile governors to lead what he called a “10th Amendment revolution” to push back against the federal government.

“One of the first things I’m going to do is I’m going to pick up the phone, after I’m elected [governor], and call a guy by the name of Chris Christie in New Jersey. I’m going to say, ‘Chris, now hang on here.’ And to make this work, I’m going to try to conference in somebody else. And then I’m going to try to put the Gov. Jan Brewer of Arizona on the line. ‘Listen, listen, governors, I’ve got to tell you. I’ve got a little proposition to make here.’

And maybe by then there will be, who knows, three or four other governors that feel likewise about this. I’m going to say, let’s do this, why don’t we do this. Because none of us - I can’t do it alone. I don’t think anybody here can. But all of us together, wouldn’t it be great if together we started the 10th Amendment revolution in the United States of America.”

Tancredo’s comments on the campaign trail in Colorado were videotaped over the weekend by Donald Johnson of The Business Word.

The 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states…

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., wrote on National Review Online in September that…

“If one looks through the federal government’s $3.7 trillion budget and the legislation passed by Congress and regulations created by dozens and dozens of federal rulemaking agencies, one has to wonder whether there is any real limit left on the powers of the federal government.”
