In Colorado: “TAX THE RICH! TAX THE RICH!”

The chants were flying at the union rally on the steps of the Colorado Capitol on Tuesday, with a visceral contempt for the “rich.”

Dwayne Stephens, president of the Colorado AFL-CIO, mentioned looking at the state “revenue” (see my earlier post on the lefty code word for “tax” becoming “revenue”) and the crowd spontaneously broke into chanting about taxing the rich. Apparently they ALL got the memo that revenue means taxes, and if the unions have their way the ominous “rich” will be the ones to pay.

Stephens: “With $1.2 billion in budget cuts being proposed in K-12 education, higher ed, and other critical services, we have a huge challenge ahead. Add in economic and constitutional constraints leave us little choice but to cut in 2011. But we know for the good of Colorado we cannot cut forever. We need to have a serious discussion about raising the revenue necessary to fund our schools . . .”

Crowd: “YES!!! TAX THE RICH! TAX THE RICH! TAX THE RICH!”
