I ran into Ken Buck, the 2010 GOP candidate for U.S. Senate from Colorado, and the founder of Balance America) at the Tax Day Tea Party rally in Denver on April 15. Buck, the Weld County district attorney, gave a great speech and we spoke afterward…

On taxation vs. spending:

“The reality is that we can’t tax our way out of this problem: we aren’t undertaxed, we are overspending,” said Buck. “And we’ve got to make sure that we are…the Republicans in Congress send the President a very clear message that we aren’t going to raise taxes to try to get out of this. We’ve got to reduce spending.”

On the plan, proposed by House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., and passed by the House, to cut proposed federal spending by $6 trillion over 10 years.

“I think Paul Ryan took a great first step. I don’t agree with everything that he put into his plan, but his plan is a brilliant plan. It takes a lot of things into account and, really, I think it is a positive step in saying it can have smaller government, it can be more efficient, we can give power back to the states.”
