Sen. Udall is missing some of us in the Great Outdoors

U.S. Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo., is, safe to say, an avid outdoorsman. That’s great. He’d like others to enjoy recreation, as the video above attests. Nothing wrong with that. It’s in the service of Udall promoting his National Kids to Parks initiative. O.K.

We’d be a little more excited if Udall and his Congressional colleagues were focused on sharply cutting federal spending on entitlements to avoid raising the current debt ceiling of $14.3 trillion.

That would lead to greater private sector business activity and economic growth, which would help provide many more sunny days for everyone.

According to The Denver Post, Udall favors the “Gang of Five” concept to reduce debt by $4 trillion through cuts and tax hikes. But Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., formerly in the “Gang of Six,” has said the cuts needed are closer to $9.7 trillion, reported The National Review.

And Martin Feldstein in The Wall Street Journal writes that a solution must “bring long-term deficits under control without raising marginal tax rates…”
