Headed west to wrangle politicos on camera

I drove over the mountains on Friday to be in Grand Junction for the fall meeting of Club 20, the chamber-like organization that advocates for the 20 counties of the Western Slope. In election years, the Club 20 event is a time for candidates around the state to debate one another. But 2011 is an off-year, so it’s a time for . . . wait for it . . . speeches!

Here’s what WhoSaid wants to know…

Where does Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (scheduled to speak Saturday morning) stand on Proposition 103? That’s the $3 billion tax sinkhole proposed by state Sen. Rollie Heath, D-Boulder. We’ve covered that issue from the early days. But now Coloradans are less than eight weeks from actually VOTING ON this misguided tax hike, so it’s time to fees up, politicos: are you for it or against it?

If I see Colorado state Rep. Sal Pace, D-Pueblo (the minority leader who wants to be in Congress really bad), I’d like to ask him about his “Tough Day,” the phrase tweeted by Curtis Hubbard, Denver Post editorial page editor, based on the takedown of Pace posted by Colorado Peak Politics.

While I’m on the hunt for fresh content, follow us via Twitter @whosaidyousaid and we’ll post pictures and updates throughout the weekend.

Meanwhile, enjoy one of our favorite videos from last year’s Club 20 debates, when U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., and GOP challenger Ken Buck got into a classic back-and-forth about Bennet’s malicious attack ads. (Bennet, by the way, is scheduled to give the Club 20 luncheon speech on Saturday.)

BUCK: “The question now is: Is everybody else wrong and you’re right? Is Channel 4 wrong? Channel 7 wrong? Channel 9 wrong? The Denver Post wrong, but you’re right?”

BENNET: “They’re mistaken.”

BUCK: “They’re mistaken?”

BENNET: “It’s an honest mistake.”

BUCK: “Everybody’s mistaken but you?”
