Deadline for Colo. reapportionment a moving target

On Nov. 15, the Colorado State Supreme Court rejected the map put forth by Colorado’s Reapportionment Commission regarding new state legislative districts. On Monday, the commission met to discuss new map proposals, but much of the discussion in the morning centered on the process by which maps had been proposed. The Republicans on the commission were all under the impression that map proposals would be due by noon last Wednesday (when their maps were submitted) and that amendments would be allowed following that time. However, the Democrats proposed a whole new map and proposal late Sunday night, allowing the Democrats four extra days to review the Republican maps before submitting their own. The unaffiliated chairman of the commission, Mario Carrera, took responsibility for accepting the Dems map so late. I emailed Chairman Carrera and asked him for an interview today. He declined.

The vote on all map proposals will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday. If you would like to contact Chairman Carrera regarding the proposals (or encourage him to agree to an interview with WhoSaidYouSaid), you can do so at: [email protected]
